Serving as post-production director, I lead a team of compositors to bring an independent horror animation to the level of polish it deserved. With experience in gothic media such as Castlevania, we created an oppressive, grungy mood and style that complimented the wonderfully disturbed imagery and stellar, skin-crawling sound design.
Key scenes were composited by myself to lay the groundwork for the rest of the team, with quick and efficient work and clear direction resulting in a short that was finished ahead of schedule and found itself making waves in film festivals. Along with its premiere at Fantasia Festival as part of its “Are You Afraid of Fantasia” block, TINKERHELL has been shown at over 15 festivals across North America and Europe, including Screamfest, Imagine Fantastic Film Festival, and Atlanta Horror Film Festival — where it won “Best Animated Short.”
My longest body of work has definitely been compositing for the Netflix animated series Castlevania, as part of my career at Powerhouse Animation Studios.
Often being compared to Berzerk with the visual effects quality of Demon Slayer and the Fate series, this production demanded a high level of quality throughout its run. It posed many challenges, including a heavy amount of post production for nearly every scene, large casts of characters, and an almost “filmic” level of quality across the board.
As such, I can say with confidence that Castlevania contains some of my finest work. It is without a doubt one of the most rewarding projects I had the honor to be involved with, and a fantastic catalogue of my own personal achievements in creative problem solving.
As part of soundtrec’s video editing team, I have produced a number of videos for SEGA’s concert series Sonic Symphony World Tour, which has premiered across the world in countries like Brazil, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and much of North America—and featured special guests including Kellin Quinn and Johnny Gioeli.
In particular, I edited several videos shown on the projector display during the concert, both for the live orchestra and the combined orchestra & rock band performances.
Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog are very passionate about its characters and world, just as they are with the series’ music, and we made sure to honor their love and appreciation of the storied history of this franchise. The musical selection of this concert pulls from every source you can think of, and the video presentations accompanying them are no different. Every clip is filled to the brim with subtle references and deep cuts that diehard fans in the audience will appreciate—and as you can hear, they’ll make that very clear! Knowing the audience made it straightforward to produce content that they would not only appreciate, but see as an essential part of the viewing experience. As Sonic is still an active player in the gaming space, the concert doubles as a promotional tool as well, and I’ve spared no expense teasing and advertising newer releases in the tour, with audiences responding very positively as a result.
Along with the live events, I also served as an editor for the original 30th Anniversary livestream in 2021. Of note, I created and edited the visuals for the finale performance of Live and Learn, capitalizing on the inherent reputation of that song and the era in which it was made to create an “AMV,” finishing off the livestream with a bang.
As the tour is still ongoing, professional recordings of the concert are both not easily accessible and not always a priority. For this reason, amateur uploads of my work are provided for your viewing needs. Access to higher quality footage may be negotiated with prospective employers over interviews.
